Pooja Bedi Reflects on "Tumultuous" Past with Aditya Pancholi, Opts for Silence, and Reveals Evolving Stance on Marriage
Mumbai, India – Renowned actress and television personality, Pooja Bedi, known for her memorable role in ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar,’ has recently offered candid insights into her personal life, particularly addressing her well-documented past relationship with actor Aditya Pancholi. In a recent interview, Bedi described their romance as "tumultuous" but emphasized her definitive decision to cease public discussion of the matter going forward.
The revelation came during a conversation with Vickey Lalwani, where Bedi recounted the origins of her relationship with Pancholi. Having just returned from the United States as a young adult, she was beginning to carve her path in the film industry, following in the footsteps of her illustrious parents, Protima and Kabir Bedi. It was during this nascent period that she first encountered Pancholi, who was then married to Zarina Wahab. Bedi characterized their involvement as "very much an experience. Let’s just put it that way."
Bedi openly acknowledged that despite the passage of time and their eventual separation, questions about their relationship have frequently resurfaced. However, she has largely opted for discretion, citing the well-being of Pancholi’s children as a primary motivator for her silence. "He has two lovely children who have grown up, and I don’t think it is really in good taste to keep talking about things. If people want to read about it, they can Google it. But it is not fair to the children to have this brought up again and again," she explained, underscoring a desire for privacy and respect for all parties involved.
Given their shared profession, Bedi admits to occasionally encountering Pancholi at industry events. Despite these chance meetings, she maintains a conscious distance. "I bump into him from time to time, but it is the same industry. At some point, you will obviously bump into someone at an event or an occasion. You can be civil, look away, and walk away," she stated, indicating a polite but firm boundary.
Beyond her past relationships, Bedi also shed light on her current perspectives on marriage. When questioned about her long-standing relationship with Maneck Contractor, she revealed that the couple is content with their current arrangement and has no immediate plans to formalize their union. "The commitment is enough. After the commitment is made, all you are really doing is signing a piece of paper and getting the government involved in your love life," Bedi remarked, offering a pragmatic and unconventional view on matrimony.
She further elaborated that her parents’ amicable separation served as an influential example, demonstrating that a successful relationship can exist without the traditional bonds of marriage, provided there is clear communication and mutual understanding. Bedi was previously married to Farhan Furniturewala from 1994 to 2003, with whom she shares two children, Alaya F and Omar.
