Kempinski Hotels has officially announced that the iconic Augustine Hotel in Prague will join its prestigious portfolio in early 2027. Following its acquisition earlier this year, the property, which is set within the 13th-century Augustinian Monastery of St. Thomas in the city’s historic Malá Strana district, is undergoing a comprehensive transformation to align with a new, experiential vision of luxury.
Spanning seven historic buildings that boast over 800 years of history, the hotel is being repositioned around the concept of “lived duality.” According to the group, this philosophy seeks to bridge the gap between the civic and the secular, heritage and modern reinvention.
“Kempinski Augustine Hotel, Prague will embody what we believe is the future of experiential travel: deeply individual and intentional,” said Rasha Lababidi, Chief Product, Experience and Communications Officer at Kempinski Group. “We are building an intentional collection that takes us into a more experiential space, revitalising our heritage in authentic, meaningful, story-rich ways.”
The design, led by LDS Design Studio, aims to move away from static preservation. Instead, it integrates the monastery’s Gothic and Baroque architecture with contemporary interventions. Symbolic references to the life of St. Augustine, including whimsical nods to pears and Garden of Eden-inspired tapestries, will be woven throughout the interiors. The hotel will offer 101 guest rooms, including 20 suites that retain the authentic structure of the monks’ former quarters, updated with bespoke canopy beds and a palette inspired by Prague’s distinctive rooftops and gardens.
A central highlight of the new identity is the “living room of the city” concept. Public spaces are being reimagined as a series of interconnected environments—a residential-style bar and communal gathering areas designed to encourage connection between locals and international visitors.
Dining and social rituals will also undergo a major overhaul in partnership with Gorgeous Group and Russell Sage Studio. The hotel will feature “The Salon,” a grand, neighborhood-focused dining space centered on the principle of “Rebellious Generosity,” and a bar located in the monastery’s historic Refectory. The latter will offer a cocktail program based on George Ripley’s 12 alchemical steps, utilizing local botanicals and craft absinthes.
Beyond the physical space, the hotel will launch “The E.R.A.s” (Experience Real Access), a bespoke programming initiative. Through this, resident curators will connect guests with local artisans, creatives, and historians, allowing visitors to bypass standard tourist experiences in favor of personal, deep-rooted connections to Prague.
“Augustine allows us to unlock something that is increasingly rare in luxury hospitality: genuine access to a living piece of history,” added Lababidi. When it opens in 2027, the property promises to be more than a hotel, positioning itself as a destination where Prague’s monastic past is not just remembered, but actively inhabited.
