Ranveer Singh's 'Pralay' UPDATE: Jai Mehta directs post-apocalyptic action thriller starts shooting in Mumbai

Fresh off the success of ‘Dhurandhar’, Ranveer Singh is now embarking on an ambitious new cinematic venture titled ‘Pralay’. This project is being hailed as a compelling post-apocalyptic thriller, signifying a significant shift for the acclaimed actor. Not only is Ranveer Singh taking on a challenging role in ‘Pralay’, but he is also making his debut as a film producer, marking a pivotal moment in his career. The initial phase of filming is currently underway in Mumbai, as confirmed by reports from PTI.

Under the direction of Jai Mehta, ‘Pralay’ is envisioned as an original survival and action thriller, boasting a narrative deeply rooted in the iconic landscape of Mumbai. The film promises a grand spectacle while simultaneously delivering an emotionally resonant story centered on the fundamental human struggle for survival. Early insights suggest that the storyline will delve into themes of courage, resilience, and the innate drive to protect loved ones and what truly matters in the face of overwhelming adversity.

Jai Mehta, celebrated for his exceptional work on the critically acclaimed series ‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’, brings his distinct directorial vision to ‘Pralay’. His expertise in crafting intricate narratives and intense dramatic sequences is expected to elevate this post-apocalyptic saga.

Adding to the film’s growing ensemble, Kalyani Priyadarshan has joined the cast. The talented actress, who recently garnered attention for her performance in ‘Lokah’, will share the screen with Ranveer Singh, promising an intriguing dynamic between the two leads.

Initially, ‘Pralay’ was slated for an international shoot in Australia. However, a strategic decision was made to relocate the production schedule to Mumbai. A recent report by India Today sheds light on this change, attributing it to Ranveer Singh’s desire to remain close to his wife, Deepika Padukone, as they anticipate the arrival of their second child. According to the report, Ranveer expressed a wish to avoid prolonged periods of separation from Deepika during this significant family milestone, prompting the production team to accommodate his request by shifting the filming location to the city.

‘Pralay’ follows closely on the heels of Ranveer Singh’s recent box office success, ‘Dhurandhar The Revenge’. The Aditya Dhar-directed film reportedly achieved a remarkable worldwide gross exceeding Rs 1,800 crore. In ‘Dhurandhar The Revenge’, Ranveer Singh delivered a dual performance, portraying the characters of Hamza Ali Mazari and Jaskirat Singh Rangi. The film also featured a strong supporting cast, including R Madhavan, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi, among others, further solidifying Ranveer’s standing as a versatile and commercially viable star in the entertainment industry.
