Reform Councillor Faces 35 Charges Including 12 Counts of Rape

George Madgwick, a Reform UK councillor who gained public prominence for his vocal stance against migrant landings in Portsmouth, has been charged with 35 criminal offences, including 12 counts of rape.

The 37-year-old is accused of a series of crimes against four victims, all of whom were aged between 16 and 17 at the time the alleged abuse occurred. Following an extensive investigation by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed that the charges span a 13-year period, from 2008 to 2021.

In addition to the 12 counts of rape, the comprehensive list of charges against Madgwick includes two counts of sexual assault, two counts of assault by penetration, and two counts of making indecent images of a child, along with one count of distributing such material. He is further charged with one offence of causing or inciting the sexual exploitation of a child, eight counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of controlling or coercive behaviour, one count of stalking, one count of making threats to kill, one count of false imprisonment, one count of theft, and one count of criminal damage.

A spokesperson for the CPS confirmed the decision to prosecute, stating: “The Crown Prosecution Service has decided to prosecute George Madgwick for serious sexual offences, including multiple counts of rape. Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence and that it is in the public interest to bring the case to court.”

The legal proceedings are now active, and officials have issued a standard warning regarding potential prejudice. “We remind all concerned that proceedings against the defendant are now active and that he has the right to a fair trial,” the CPS spokesperson added. “There should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

Following the announcement of the charges, Reform UK confirmed that Madgwick has been suspended from the party with immediate effect.

Prior to his arrest, Madgwick was a highly visible figure in local politics and social media circles. He frequently campaigned for the party, notably boasting about his efforts in door-to-door canvassing and his role in organizing protests against migrant arrivals in the region. Images recently circulated of him hosting party leader Nigel Farage during a visit to Portsmouth, and he was also pictured alongside other high-profile Reform UK figures, such as home affairs spokesperson Zia Yusuf, at demonstrations in Gosport.

Madgwick is scheduled to appear before Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, to face the allegations.
