An investigation is underway after a pensioner was found dead at Hargreaves House in Bolton
Police launched a murder investigation after pensioner was found dead at a block of flats in Bolton.
The pensioner, a man of 75, was found dead at Hargreaves Houses in the town centre on Friday morning. Today (Saturday, July 18) detectives were continuing to quiz a suspect, a woman of 49, who has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Residents described how police descended on the block of flats at around 8am on Friday. Officers found the body of a 75-year-old man. The suspect was arrested a short time later.

Residents have described their shock at the death and how they don’t feel safe in the building, which is covered by CCTV and is surrounded by a gate which has keypad entry.
One resident said ‘it’s bad’ before adding that residents ‘keep themselves to themselves’ because, he claimed, the area was plagued by drug dealing.
Another resident said she didn’t feel safe in the block of flats. “It’s not good. Things are always happening,” she said.
A statement from Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers were called to Ormrod Street at around 8am on Friday (July 17). The man was found dead inside a property.
Police scene of crime specialists were seen in the car park of the block on Saturday morning as the investigation went into its second day.
GMP said officers are ‘continuing to pursue multiple lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstances’. The victim’s next of kin has been informed.
Appealing for witnesses, Detective Inspector Louise Kelly said: “I would like to express my deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones as they navigate through this loss. They will continue to be supported by our specialist officers during this difficult time.
“It is our priority to obtain some answers regarding the full circumstances of this tragic incident, and we are appealing for information from the public to help us progress our investigation.”
In a statement about the incident, GMP said: “We were called to an address on Ormrod Street, Bolton at around 8am yesterday morning (Friday 17 July 2026). Upon arrival, officers sadly located the body of a 75-year-old man inside the address. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“One woman, aged 49, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning.
“Our Major Incident Team have launched a murder investigation and are continuing to pursue multiple lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstances. Formal identification of the victim is yet to take place, but next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported at this time.”
