Carrefour Re-enters Indian Market with Flagship Store in Greater Noida
French retail giant Carrefour has officially marked its return to the Indian market, inaugurating its first flagship store through a strategic partnership with the Dubai-based Apparel Group. The new facility, spanning over 50,000 square feet, is strategically located in the H&S Mall within Boulevard Walk in Greater Noida West. This launch signifies a fresh chapter for the international retailer, which had previously operated in India between 2010 and 2014 under a cash-and-carry model before withdrawing due to challenges in navigating the multi-brand retail regulatory landscape. By leveraging the local market expertise of the Apparel Group, the partnership aims to establish a sustainable and scalable presence in one of the world’s most rapidly expanding consumer markets.
The flagship store offers an extensive inventory of over 15,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs), designed to cater to a diverse range of shopper needs. The product assortment encompasses a comprehensive selection of bakery items, fresh farm produce, grocery staples, household essentials, and personal care products. Notably, the store’s inventory is curated to balance premium imported goods with locally sourced items, reflecting a localized approach to the Indian consumer’s preferences. According to the Apparel Group, this facility will function as a central hub for future expansion, supported by a sophisticated supply chain infrastructure and an integrated omnichannel retail network designed to enhance convenience and accessibility for shoppers across the northern region of the country.
Executives from both organizations expressed optimism regarding the long-term impact of this venture. Patrick Lasfargues, executive director of international partnerships at Carrefour, highlighted that the company recognizes India’s strong economic fundamentals and evolving retail environment as key drivers for their return. He emphasized that the collaboration is not merely about launching a single store but is the foundational step toward building a nationwide footprint that delivers consistent quality and value. Nilesh Ved, chairman of APPCORP Holding, the parent company of the Apparel Group, echoed these sentiments, noting that the partnership combines international operational excellence with deep insights into the local consumer ecosystem.
With a global presence spanning over 15,000 stores across 40 countries and reported sales reaching €91.5 billion in 2025, Carrefour brings substantial institutional experience to India. For the Apparel Group, this expansion marks a significant diversification of its Indian portfolio. Having already established a strong presence in the country with more than 300 stores across 50 cities and the management of over 20 global fashion and lifestyle brands, the group is well-positioned to facilitate Carrefour’s aggressive growth strategy. As the company looks ahead, the focus remains on scaling its operations, reaching more communities, and setting new benchmarks in the competitive Indian retail sector through a blend of global standards and local relevance.
