Punjab School Headmaster Arrested for Alleged Rape of 11-Year-Old Student
Hoshiarpur, Punjab: In a deeply disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through the local community, a 52-year-old government school headmaster has been taken into custody by Punjab police on charges of raping an 11-year-old girl.
The accused, whose identity has not been disclosed by authorities to protect the privacy of the victim, was formally arrested on Thursday following an investigation into the heinous crime.
According to police reports, the assault occurred earlier this month on August 11. Officials stated that the incident took place in the vicinity of a local village cremation ground between the hours of 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm.
The matter came to light after the minor victim’s father approached local law enforcement to file a formal complaint. Acting swiftly on the report, the Hariana police registered a case against the educator. He has been charged under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which carries stringent penalties for crimes against minors.
Sub-Inspector Gurbachan Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Hariana police station, confirmed the arrest and stated that the investigation remains ongoing. “We have taken the accused into custody, and further legal procedures are currently underway to ensure a thorough investigation,” the officer said.
The arrest has drawn sharp condemnation from parents and local residents, who have expressed outrage over such a grave breach of trust involving an individual in a position of authority and responsibility toward children. Authorities have assured that the case is being treated with the highest priority as they gather further evidence.
As the legal process begins, the victim is receiving the necessary support and protection required under the law.
