Sky News ground to a halt as they issued a major breaking news alert from Islamabad – and it’s bad news for Donald Trump. On Friday (April 24), the 24-hour news channel interrupted its regular programming to announce that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will travel to the country ahead of a second round of peace talks. Asia correspondent Cordelia Lynch reported live from the Pakistan capital, where she revealed that Pakistani government sources have altered their plans to accommodate the politician’s arrival.
She began: “Pakistani government sources confirmed that the Iranian foreign minister would be arriving here in Islamabad. A second round of talks is expected, and a US security and logistics team is still in place here.”
“I think an important point to say is Pakistan has been working extremely hard on trying to get Iran and America to the table together. Hope sort of collapsed earlier in the week, but I think it has been revived now.
“Another important point is to look at the schedule for the Iranian foreign minister. He’s also travelling to Muscat and Moscow according to Iranian state media, so that suggests he’s fitting in quite a lot this weekend, and it’s unclear how long he’ll actually be spending on the ground here.”
It comes after CNN blasted Donald Trump with a scathing compilation video teasing a possible end to the Iran war. On Tuesday (April 21), the 79-year-old Republican leader issued a major update just hours before the original deadline he had set for the US ceasefire with Iran was set to expire.
The US president said that he had agreed to delay any fresh military action after what he described as a request from Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
The two-week ceasefire was due to expire in the early hours of Wednesday morning (April 22). US vice president JD Vance was expected to travel to Islamabad today to lead the US delegation in a second round of peace talks with Iranian officials.
However, reports on Tuesday evening suggested the vice president had remained in Washington amid uncertainty over whether Tehran would send a delegation.” So far, President Donald Trump has refused to give a timeline for resolving the Iran war, telling reporters earlier today: “Don’t rush me”.
