Sky News halted for Princess Eugenie breaking news announcement

Sky News interrupted its regular programming to air a breaking announcement on Princess Eugenie. Chief presenter Mark Austin announced that the daughter of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson has given birth to a baby girl. He said: “Some breaking news from Buckingham Palace. Princess Eugenie has given birth to a daughter in Lisbon, Portugal. She gave birth last night, on Monday evening, that is according to Buckingham Palace.

“She is the youngest daughter of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson.” Announcing the news on Instagram, the 36-year-old said she and husband Jack Brooksbank were “beyond in love with our girlie” as she shared a photo of the newborn. The couple, who have been married since 2018, already have two sons, five-year-old August, and three-year-old Ernest.

A statement from Buckingham Palace read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, born on Monday, 3rd August 2026, at 6.20pm, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal.

“The baby was born weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces. Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family were delighted to be informed of the news.”

Their baby girl, whose name has yet to be announced, will be 15th in line to the throne, pushing the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, down one place in the line of succession.

Princess Eugenie and Jack split their time between Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace and a private residence in Portugal.

Jack, 40, works with property tycoon Mike Meldman on a luxury coastal development, the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club in Portugal.

Princess Eugenie has largely stayed out of the spotlight this year after her parents became embroiled in controversy over their ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

This followed the release of the latest batch of Epstein files in January, which confirmed the former couple remained in contact with the disgraced financier after he was convicted of sex offences.

Epstein was convicted of soliciting prostitution from a minor in 2008 and served 13 months of his 18-month sentence before being released in July 2009.

Eugenie’s last public appearance was in June, when she attended the wedding of her cousin, Peter Phillips, to Harriet Sperling in the Cotswolds. She was joined by her sister, Princess Beatrice, and their two husbands.
