The broadcaster continued: “The Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, says that the US President’s signature on that memorandum of understanding between the two sides is ‘worthless and invalid.’ He has also said that the US has repeatedly breached its commitments under the memorandum of understanding when that was signed a couple of weeks ago.” Kamali highlighted: “It was seen as a document that was very favourable to Iran.
“Despite that, that document has now fallen apart. The ceasefire has been broken, and the two sides have been exchanging fire for the past few days.”
The journalist explained: “The United States, bombing in the last 24 hours, bombing bridges and tunnels near the Straits of Hormuz. Iran has been responding by firing missiles at US targets in the region of Kuwait, Bahrain and other Gulf States.
“The Iranian Supreme Leader … is seemingly saying that this war between the Iranians and the United States may well continue and may well increase in veracity as the Supreme Leader, who was called to replace his father, who was killed on the first day of the war, has said that Trump’s signature on that memorandum is “worthless and invalid.”
Among his statements, the Iranian Supreme Leader also warned of “unforgettable lessons” if the US keeps attacking the Islamic Republic.
This isn’t the first time a ceasefire deal has ended with a blow for Trump. In May, Iran accused the US of committing a “gross violation” of the ceasefire after launching air strikes on the country.
At the time, the US Central Command (Centcom) said Iranian missile sites and boats attempting to place mines had been targeted with what it called “self-defence strikes” in southern Iran.
Iran’s foreign ministry said it held the US responsible for the consequences of its “aggressive and unjustified actions” in the Hormozgan region, which has a coast along the Strait of Hormuz.
In its statement, Centcom said US forces “conducted self-defence strikes in southern Iran today to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces”.
This came just days after Trump suggested a deal was close, while the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said a deal from the talks is still possible, but it will “take a few days”.
