Are you looking to take your first step into work, build your skills and gain valuable experience while earning a wage?
Applications for the Environment and Technical Traineeship Scheme will open soon. No qualifications are required to apply – just the right attitude, enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
The scheme is very popular, with around 50 applications received each year, anyone interested is encouraged to take time and care when completing their application.
What is the Environment & Technical Traineeship Scheme?
The Environmental and Technical Department does much more than empty bins, collect recycling and fill potholes.
It is a multi-functional department delivering a wide range of important services across Wrexham, including:
- Waste and water management
- Open spaces management
- Climate change and carbon reduction
- Flood management
- Ground maintenance
- Enforcement
- Public rights of way
- Highways, engineering and transport
- Street works and street lighting
The traineeship is a two-year programme, with the possibility of a third year for successful candidates, it gives successful applicants the chance to experience a mix of office-based and on-site work while learning about the different services the council provides.
We aim to appoint four trainees each year, with successful applicants starting in September 2026.
David, a Year 2 trainee said “The trainee programme with the Environment and Technical Department has been a great experience so far.”
“It has provided a lot of opportunities to learn more about the different services provided by the council and allowed myself and other trainees to be involved in providing and improving some of those services directly.”
“The trainee programme is a great opportunity to learn and provides a great work-life balance while doing so.”
