Sumalatha Rallies Behind Yash Amidst Mixed Reception for ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’
In the wake of the polarizing reception surrounding the highly anticipated release of Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, actor and former Lok Sabha MP Sumalatha has stepped forward to offer vocal support for the film’s lead, Yash. Despite the mixed critical and audience response, the veteran star praised the “Rocking Star’s” performance, urging him to remain unfazed by the prevailing negativity.
Taking to her Instagram, Sumalatha shared a heartfelt message for the Kannada superstar, framing the film as a bold, artistic endeavor. “My dear Yash, I always knew you were fearless, and that you would choose to tread your own path rather than follow anyone else’s. But in this movie, what stood out for me above everything was you. Your performance was outstanding—truly mind-blowing,” she wrote.
A Vision Ahead of Its Time?
Sumalatha addressed the criticism head-on, suggesting that the film’s unconventional narrative might have left some viewers struggling to grasp its artistic intent. She posited that Toxic might simply be “far ahead of its time,” or that certain segments of the audience are uncomfortable with the massive evolution of Yash’s career.
“Success like yours will attract all kinds of jealousy too. But I know you are not one to care for that,” she added, dismissing the detractors and suggesting that the film may have been unfairly judged by those hesitant to embrace a new direction for the actor.
Confidence in a Strong Comeback
Addressing the discourse surrounding the film, which was released on August 26, Sumalatha expressed her firm belief in Yash’s professional resilience. She framed the movie as a “vibrant visual spectacle” and a significant milestone for both Yash and director Geetu Mohandas.
“I have absolutely no doubt that you will overcome all of it and emerge bigger and stronger. You will hit the ball right out of the ground again—I have no doubts about that,” she asserted. “For now, take a bow. Kudos to you for the sheer effort, conviction, and hard work that have gone into this. Don’t stop now… or ever.”
A Star’s Evolution
The former MP also noted the personal growth she witnessed in Yash’s craft, stating, “I cannot tell you how proud I felt watching you outshine yourself in every frame. You have evolved and grown so much as an actor, and watching that journey fills my heart with immense pride.”
Directed by Geetu Mohandas and co-written by the director and Yash, Toxic boasts a massive ensemble cast including Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth, and Tara Sutaria. As the film continues its theatrical run, Sumalatha’s support for Yash serves as a reminder of the industry veteran’s unwavering belief in his potential to redefine his legacy beyond his previous blockbuster successes.
