Vismaya Mohanlal’s debut feature, ‘Thudakkam,’ has demonstrated a notable resurgence at the box office, exhibiting impressive growth during its second Friday in cinemas. This Malayalam film, marking a significant entry for the actress, collected a net sum of 1.11 Crore Indian Rupees on its eighth day of release.
This latest collection signifies a substantial 30.6% increase compared to the 85 lakh Rupees garnered on its seventh day, according to figures released by Sacnilk. The movie was showcased across 845 screenings on Friday, achieving an overall occupancy rate of 22.0%. While Day 6 saw a robust collection of 1.60 Crore Rupees, there was a subsequent dip to 85 lakh Rupees on Day 7, making the current upswing particularly encouraging.
The cumulative India net collection for ‘Thudakkam’ has now reached an impressive 17.16 Crore Rupees. Its domestic gross collection stands at 19.91 Crore Rupees. Having accumulated 16.05 Crore Rupees during its opening week, the additional 1.11 Crore Rupees from Day 8 has pushed its total India net figure beyond the 17 Crore mark.
Globally, the film’s financial success is also evident. ‘Thudakkam’ has amassed 14.05 Crore Rupees in overseas gross collections. Combined with its India gross of 19.91 Crore Rupees, the total worldwide gross has reached 33.96 Crore Rupees. This substantial growth on its eighth day provides a strong impetus for the film as it enters its second weekend.
Analyzing audience engagement, the movie registered a 22.0% overall occupancy for its Malayalam 2D screenings on Day 8. The morning shows recorded the lowest turnout at 6.00%. However, attendance steadily climbed throughout the day, with afternoon screenings reaching 11.58% occupancy and evening shows seeing a further increase to 15.92%. The most significant audience engagement was observed during the night shows, which achieved a robust 35.83% occupancy.
Directed by Lineesh Nellickal, ‘Thudakkam’ unfolds a compelling narrative centered on Meenu, portrayed by Vismaya Mohanlal. Meenu, a martial arts instructor, finds herself embroiled in a challenging predicament while caring for her differently-abled father, played by Sai Kumar. The antagonist, a psychotic rapist and killer, is brought to life by Aashish Antony. The film delves into the profound challenges women face in the aftermath of violent incidents. A special appearance by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal further enhances this thrilling cinematic experience.
