Suriya’s ‘Vishwanath and Sons’ Approaches Rs 200 Crore Milestone Amid Third-Week Decline

Suriya’s latest cinematic outing, Vishwanath and Sons, continues its theatrical journey into its third week, maintaining a strong presence despite a predictable mid-week cooling period. As the film navigates the competitive landscape of the box office, recent data reveals it is steadily closing in on the coveted Rs 200 crore worldwide milestone.

Third-Week Performance and Monday Dip

Following a resilient third weekend, the film experienced a sharp correction this past Monday. On Day 18, Vishwanath and Sons recorded an estimated net collection of Rs 75 lakhs across India, representing a 70.6% drop from its Sunday earnings of Rs 2.55 crore.

Despite the decline, the film’s cumulative performance remains impressive. Its total India net collection now stands at Rs 116.75 crore, with domestic gross figures reaching Rs 135.17 crore. When combined with its robust international performance of Rs 64.50 crore, the film has reached an estimated worldwide gross of Rs 199.67 crore.

Regional Drivers

The film’s business on Day 18 was primarily bolstered by its Telugu and Tamil versions. The Telugu release emerged as the leading contributor, earning Rs 40 lakhs net, while the Tamil version brought in Rs 35 lakhs.

Occupancy rates provided a closer look at audience engagement: the Tamil version registered a solid 25.34% overall occupancy, peaking at over 30% during night shows. The Telugu version recorded an overall occupancy of 15.97%, with healthy traction in the late-night slots as well. State-wise, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana led the contribution charts with Rs 40 lakhs, followed by Tamil Nadu at Rs 32 lakhs, Karnataka at Rs 10 lakhs, and Kerala at Rs 5 lakhs.

Comparative Box Office Standing

The performance of Vishwanath and Sons stands in stark contrast to the film DC. While DC has carved out its own space with a total worldwide gross of Rs 102.38 crore—anchored by a domestic net collection of Rs 68.71 crore—the Suriya-starrer has effectively doubled those figures.

Industry analysts continue to monitor the box office collections closely as the movie nears the end of its theatrical run. Having opened with a strong first-week haul of Rs 81.60 crore and sustaining momentum with a second-week addition of Rs 27.55 crore, Vishwanath and Sons has cemented its status as a significant commercial success.
