A major meat processing plant in Merthyr Tydfil has begun a formal consultation process over proposed job cuts. Kepak, one of the leading meat producers in Ireland and the UK, operates 15 manufacturing plants across the two countries, including its site in Merthyr Tydfil.
The company has confirmed it has launched a collective consultation with employees at the Merthyr plant following a review of operations in response to what it described as “evolving market conditions”.
There are reports that 85 jobs will be affected, but the company has not confirmed a final figure. Kepak said it could not confirm the number of potential redundancies yet because the consultation process is still at an early stage, but indicated losses may be up to 10% of the overall site workforce.
