One of Newport’s largest suburbs has been transformed with new shops and apartments.
The new shopping centre, known as Kiln Square, has opened right in the heart of Ringland just off Ringland Circle. During our weekday visit, it was busy with the car park full, queues spilling out of Beth’s Bakes and Greggs, and lots of people going in and out of the new chippy.
The site is also home to a Costcutter store, a pharmacy, and a barber shop.
The new look is part of a £34m transfornation of one of the city’s most challenged areas.
According to the 2019 Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD), which the Welsh Government uses to measure deprivation levels, Ringland was among the areas of Newport with the highest rates of deprivation.
