Weston Break-In Spree: Toronto Man Facing Multiple Charges Following Targeted Residential Attacks

Toronto police have taken a 34-year-old man into custody following a string of break-ins that rattled the Weston neighbourhood over the past month. Austin MacDonald of Toronto faces a lengthy list of charges after an alleged crime spree that saw him target both residential properties and motor vehicles.

Investigators say the series of incidents began on August 26, when MacDonald allegedly forced his way into a garage located near the intersection of Jane and Church Streets. During this initial break-in, police claim the suspect made off with two dirt bikes. In a brazen return to the scene just one week later, police allege that MacDonald went back to the same property and broke into a vehicle parked in the driveway.

The escalation continued on September 19, when detectives say MacDonald broke into a residence in the same neighbourhood while the occupants were inside. According to a press release issued by the Toronto Police Service on Friday, the suspect allegedly made off with personal belongings, including jewelry and bank cards, during the home invasion.

Following the burglary, investigators say the suspect targeted another motor vehicle in the area, removing additional personal property. Authorities further allege that MacDonald immediately attempted to profit from his crimes, attending a nearby store where he reportedly used the stolen bank cards to make multiple purchases and cash withdrawals.

The investigation into the suspect’s activities culminated later that same day on September 19, when officers arrested MacDonald. During the arrest, police reported that they seized several items of “evidentiary value” linked to the string of incidents.

MacDonald is now facing a total of 15 charges, highlighting the scope of the alleged criminal activity. He has been charged with two counts of break and enter, three counts of theft over $5,000, and two counts of possessing or using a credit card obtained by crime. Furthermore, he faces eight counts of breaching probation, suggesting he had previous legal restrictions in place at the time of the alleged offences.

The string of crimes has caused significant concern among Weston residents, particularly given that one of the break-ins occurred while a family was inside their home. Police have not commented on whether additional victims or incidents may be linked to the suspect as the investigation continues.

MacDonald was scheduled to appear in a Toronto courtroom on September 23 to answer to the charges. Police are urging anyone with information related to these incidents or similar suspicious activity in the Weston area to come forward and contact investigators.
