A woman has been arrested and remains in police custody after four men were stabbed in central London.

The Metropolitan Police has said that the woman, aged 47, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and assault.

Footage has since circulated of an a woman being arrested at the scene of the incident in Covent Garden, a busy tourist hot spot.

Two of the four men injured in the incident have already been released from hospital, the Met says, and the other two victims are not believed to have life-changing injuries.

Shortly after the incident the London Ambulance Service deployed an ambulance crew, fast-response paramedic and an air ambulance – which landed in Trafalgar Square.

Speaking after the arrest, Metropolitan Police Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart said he would like to “reassure the community” that police believe the incident to be “isolated” and “mental-health related”.

Eye-witnesses say that one victim was “traumatised” by the incident and described a woman who appeared to be holding a large pair of scissors.
