Eligibility Criteria for Round 2 Participation
The AIIMS administration has also clarified the eligibility criteria for the upcoming Round 2 of seat allocation. Candidates falling into the following categories will be eligible:
- Candidates who were allotted a seat in Round 1 and subsequently opted for ‘Option 2’ (indicating acceptance of the allotted seat with a desire to upgrade in subsequent rounds), provided they meet all other stipulated conditions.
- Candidates who were considered in Round 1 but were not allotted any seat will be automatically included for consideration in Round 2.
It is crucial to note that candidates who were eligible for Round 1 but failed to register or submit their choices will unfortunately not be eligible to participate in Round 2. However, such candidates will still have an opportunity to compete in the ‘Open Round’ of seat allocation.
Understanding the Seat Allotment Mechanism
The seat allotment process at AIIMS is designed to ensure fairness and merit-based selection. Both unreserved and eligible reserved category candidates are considered for unreserved seats or institutions based on their overall merit. When competing for a seat within a specific category, candidates with higher merit are consistently given precedence over those with lower ranks.
In Round 1, the allotment was primarily based on a candidate’s highest available choice that matched their rank. A key aspect of the policy is that if a candidate’s preferred institute or seat was available under both the unreserved category and a reserved category (where applicable), the seat was invariably allotted under the unreserved category. A reserved-category seat is allocated to an eligible reserved-category candidate only if their preferred choice is not available under the unreserved category at their specific rank.
