The long-simmering dispute surrounding the highly anticipated film ‘Don 3’ has been reignited after a recent comment by acclaimed actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar. While reminiscing about a significant casting challenge during the production of his directorial debut ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, Akhtar made a remark that many perceive as a pointed reference to Ranveer Singh’s alleged departure from ‘Don 3’.

The controversy surrounding Ranveer Singh and the makers of ‘Don 3’ has remained a contentious topic in Bollywood circles, making Akhtar’s recent observation particularly noteworthy.

Farhan Akhtar Recalls Saif Ali Khan’s Near Exit from ‘Dil Chahta Hai’

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Farhan Akhtar recounted the considerable stress he experienced when Saif Ali Khan considered withdrawing from ‘Dil Chahta Hai’. Akhtar explained that Saif was grappling with scheduling conflicts and, despite persuasive efforts, ultimately decided he would be unable to continue with the project.

Reflecting on his emotional state at the time, Farhan stated, “For me, it was just like my head was destroyed because when we met him, when we got into it, there was nobody else who could’ve played that part. It was just impossible. That was a true heartbreak for me.”

The situation was exacerbated by the timing of Saif’s potential exit, which occurred approximately a month before principal photography was scheduled to commence.

Farhan Akhtar’s Comment Draws Attention to ‘Don 3’

It was while discussing the precarious timing of Saif’s almost-departure that Farhan uttered a phrase that has since drawn parallels to the ongoing ‘Don 3’ controversy.

“It was a month away from filming, which seems to be a pattern nowadays,” he remarked. The interviewer’s ensuing laughter indicated a clear understanding of the implied reference. Farhan, with a smile, added, “But, not just with me… aisa bhi hota hai (this happens).”

This statement has been widely interpreted as a subtle yet significant jab at Ranveer Singh, who was reportedly slated to star in ‘Don 3’ but is said to have exited the project shortly before its planned production.

The Unfolding Saga Between Ranveer Singh and ‘Don 3’ Makers

Farhan Akhtar was initially set to direct Ranveer Singh in the highly anticipated third installment of the ‘Don’ franchise, a project backed by Excel Entertainment. However, the dynamics shifted when Ranveer reportedly decided to step away from the film, close to its scheduled production start.

This reported disagreement escalated into a financial dispute. While Ranveer was reportedly prepared to return the signing amount, the producers allegedly sought compensation of Rs 45 crore, citing substantial losses incurred due to the project’s pre-production activities.

The controversy further broadened its scope when the FWICE (Federation of Western India Cine Employees) issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer, ostensibly in response to his reported decision to leave the project.

FWICE Clarifies, Ranveer Singh Not Banned

The actions of the FWICE sparked considerable debate within the film industry. The organization subsequently retracted its directive, clarifying that Ranveer Singh had not been officially banned from working in the industry.

Following these developments, reports emerged suggesting that Ranveer had dispatched a legal notice to the FWICE concerning the dispute. Throughout the entirety of the controversy, Ranveer Singh has maintained a dignified silence, largely refraining from public comments. His spokesperson has consistently emphasized the actor’s profound respect for the film fraternity and all individuals associated with ‘Don 3’.

Farhan Akhtar’s recent, seemingly innocuous remark has, nonetheless, served to thrust the unresolved ‘Don 3’ controversy back into the spotlight, underscoring the lingering questions surrounding the project, despite his careful avoidance of directly naming Ranveer Singh.
