Aamir Khan recently shared a humorous anecdote about his first meeting with legendary actor Dharmendra, recalling how he was intimidated by the veteran star’s famously large hands. The Bollywood superstar recounted the encounter during his appearance on ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ Season 18, where he was promoting his upcoming film ‘Batwara 1947’ alongside Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta.
Khan revealed that the memorable meeting took place years ago when he was an assistant director working at his uncle Nasir Hussain’s office, which was conveniently located directly opposite Mumbai’s famous Mehboob Studio. He explained that Dharmendra, being a close associate of Hussain and having collaborated with him on films like ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’, would frequently visit the office.
Describing the moment, Khan said, “Sir, may I share an anecdote? The first time I met Dharam ji, I was sitting in Naseer Sahab’s office, right opposite Mehboob Studio. Dharam ji was very close to Naseer Sahab, and they had also worked together in Yaadon Ki Baaraat. So, actors would often come to meet him because his office was right opposite Mehboob Studio.”
The actor then vividly described their handshake. “So, one day, Dharam ji suddenly walked in. I was an assistant at the time, so I stood up. Chachajaan introduced me, saying, ‘Dharam ji, this is my nephew, Aamir.’ I shook hands with Dharam ji, but his hand was like a shovel! And when I shook his hand, I actually got scared. I thought, ‘How can someone have such huge hands, yaar?’ They were so big and rough. And I swear, the first thought that came to my mind was Sunny and Bobby.” This playful recollection highlights Dharmendra’s imposing physical presence, a characteristic that, along with his striking good looks, cemented his status as Bollywood’s “He-Man.”
Dharmendra passed away in Mumbai on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89, leaving behind an extraordinary career spanning over six decades. Debuting in 1960, he went on to star in more than 300 films, becoming one of Hindi cinema’s most beloved and enduring figures. His filmography boasts iconic titles such as ‘Phool Aur Patthar’, ‘Mera Gaon Mera Desh’, ‘Satyakam’, ‘Chupke Chupke’, ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’, and the monumental ‘Sholay’.
