GDC Zanskar Students Deliver Poignant Performance on Partition’s Horrors, Urging Peace and Unity

Zanskar, August 17, 2026 – In a powerful and emotionally charged performance, the Department of Hindi at Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar today presented a poignant short play, vividly depicting the harrowing realities of the Partition of India. Held as part of the Independence Day celebrations, the play aimed to educate and sensitize the audience, particularly the younger generation, about the immense human suffering, displacement, and trauma inflicted during this tumultuous period in history.

Under the expert supervision of Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, Principal of GDC Zanskar, and coordinated by the Department of Hindi, student actors delivered a compelling and emotionally evocative portrayal of families uprooted from their homes. The performance brought to life the struggles of those forced to abandon cherished land, possessions, and loved ones, arriving in India with little more than grief, fear, and profound uncertainty.

The play masterfully illustrated the devastating impact of Partition, showcasing individuals grappling with the pain of lost memories and shattered lives. Yet, amidst the despair, it also highlighted the remarkable resilience and unwavering determination of survivors to rebuild their lives with dignity, hope, and courage. More than just a historical recount, the production conveyed a powerful and timely message. It emphasized the enduring importance of peace, unity, humanity, communal harmony, and mutual understanding. By shedding light on the tragic consequences of division, hatred, and violence, the play served as a solemn reminder of past mistakes and a call for a more harmonious future. It paid tribute to the countless individuals and families who endured the horrors of Partition, acknowledging their perseverance and courage.

The emotionally moving presentation received an overwhelming response from the audience, who were deeply affected by the students’ powerful portrayal. The initiative by GDC Zanskar’s Hindi Department stands as a significant contribution to fostering historical awareness and promoting vital values of peace and reconciliation within the community.
