Control Resonant Gets Last-Minute Delay For Physical Editions

Control Resonant Physical Edition Faces Last-Minute Delay, Digital Launch Unaffected

Helsinki, Finland – September 18, 2024 – Fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the surreal and paranatural world of Control will have to exercise a touch more patience if they prefer physical media. Remedy Entertainment, the acclaimed developer behind the Control series, has announced a last-minute delay for the physical editions of their highly anticipated sequel, Control Resonant.

While the digital version of Control Resonant remains on track for its original release date of September 24 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, those looking to add a boxed copy to their collection will now need to wait until October 15.

The announcement came via a statement posted to social media by Remedy, reassuring players that the digital launch would proceed as planned. "Get ready to unleash Dylan Faden’s paranatural abilities in warped Manhattan on September 24," the developer declared. "We need just a little more time to deliver the physical version to you, but rest assured – nothing stays contained forever." This evocative message, echoing the game’s themes of containment and release, acknowledges the minor setback while maintaining excitement for the upcoming title.

The delay, though specific to physical copies, places Control Resonant‘s disc release squarely in a remarkably competitive autumn gaming window. October is set to be a bustling month for releases, including titles like Marvel’s Wolverine, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Dune: Awakening, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Minecraft Dungeons 2. This crowded landscape means that while digital players will get a head start, physical copy enthusiasts will be navigating a plethora of high-profile launches. However, even with the slight delay, players will still have ample time to delve into Dylan Faden’s new adventure before the behemoth GTA 6 arrives on November 19.

Remedy’s ambition for Control Resonant is clear. Jean-Charles Gaudechon, the head of Remedy, previously emphasized the company’s strategic positioning of the game. Speaking to investors earlier this month, Gaudechon stated, "We position Control Resonant as a must-have day-one purchase while also building Control into a lasting franchise." This statement followed a period of financial stabilization for Remedy after the multiplayer experiment FBC: Firebreak. Gaudechon expressed confidence in the sequel’s ability to stand out, despite the fierce competition: "In a competitive autumn window, we believe the distinctiveness and quality of the game will make it stand out."

Early impressions suggest that Remedy’s confidence may be well-placed. IGN, after a hands-on preview earlier this year, praised Control Resonant, noting that it is "shaping up to be exactly what it looks like: more Control, only designed as a melee action game as opposed to physics-driven third person shooter." The report concluded that this shift in gameplay mechanics creates "an incredibly potent mix."

While the physical delay might be a minor disappointment for some, the core experience of Control Resonant — the expansion of the beloved universe, the unique paranatural abilities, and the distinctive art direction — remains on course for its digital debut next week. Fans of the original will soon be able to return to the Federal Bureau of Control, or at least its warped reflections in Manhattan, to confront new threats and uncover more mysteries.
