Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Awarapan 2’ Surpasses ₹150 Crore Worldwide, Continues Strong Box Office Run
Mumbai, India – Emraan Hashmi’s highly anticipated sequel, Awarapan 2, which premiered on August 14th, has achieved a significant milestone, grossing over ₹150 crore worldwide within its first six days. Despite a predictable dip in collections on its sixth day, the film has maintained a robust performance at the box office, fueled by positive word-of-mouth and the enduring legacy of its predecessor.
The film opened to an impressive reception, benefiting from an extended holiday weekend and the widespread anticipation surrounding the follow-up to the cult classic Awarapan. The original, though modest in its initial theatrical run, garnered a dedicated fanbase over time due to its heartfelt narrative and memorable musical score, creating a strong foundation for the sequel’s success.
According to box office tracking firm Sacnilk, Awarapan 2 commenced its theatrical journey with a strong opening day, pulling in ₹22 crore on Friday. Collections saw a remarkable surge of approximately 55% on Saturday, reaching ₹33.75 crore. This substantial jump was largely attributed to the Independence Day holiday, which encouraged wider cinema attendance, and a significant increase in screen count, from 9,033 on Friday to 10,496 on Saturday.
The momentum continued through Sunday, with the film adding another ₹26 crore to its domestic earnings. As expected, the first Monday after the opening weekend saw a decline, yet Awarapan 2 demonstrated resilience, securing ₹9.25 crore. The film continued its steady run on Tuesday, day five, bringing in ₹9.75 crore, with an additional increase in the number of shows, indicating sustained audience interest.
However, Wednesday, its sixth day in theaters, saw a 16% dip in collections, with the film earning ₹6.75 crore. Despite this, the cumulative domestic net collection for Awarapan 2 now stands at a formidable ₹107.50 crore. Its India gross collection has reached ₹128.29 crore, contributing to an impressive worldwide gross of ₹153.59 crore.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 features Emraan Hashmi in the lead role, alongside acclaimed actresses Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi, whose performances have also been a point of discussion among critics and audiences.
