‘Batwara 1947’ Box Office Update: Sunny Deol Starrer Battles for Traction as Week 1 Closes

Mumbai, India – Rajkumar Santoshi’s period drama, ‘Batwara 1947,’ starring Sunny Deol, has entered its seventh day in cinemas, concluding a challenging opening week at the box office. After an initially promising extended weekend, the film, which depicts the poignant human cost of the Partition of India, has struggled to maintain momentum during the weekdays, facing stiff competition from Emraan Hashmi’s dominating ‘Awarapan 2.’

The film is currently aiming for a Rs. 35 crore India net collection, a milestone it is approaching with a current live tally placing it approximately Rs. 2.75 crore shy of the mark. However, the more significant hurdle for ‘Batwara 1947’ will be to secure adequate screen space and attract audiences as it heads into its crucial second weekend.

‘Batwara 1947’ opened to a modest Rs. 5.75 crore net on its first day. It experienced a significant jump of 134.8% on Day 2, raking in Rs. 13.50 crore. However, this surge was followed by a 46.3% correction on Day 3, bringing in Rs. 7.25 crore. The film’s first Monday, Day 4, saw a further decline to Rs. 2.00 crore, indicating a struggle to convert weekend viewers into consistent weekday attendance. Day 5 offered a slight reprieve with a 12.5% uptick to Rs. 2.25 crore, but Day 6 witnessed another drop of 37.8%, settling at Rs. 1.40 crore.

As of the latest live tracking for Day 7, ‘Batwara 1947’ has collected a net of Rs. 0.10 crore from just 1,642 shows. This brings its total India net collection to Rs. 32.25 crore, with India’s final Day 7 figures still pending. The film’s total India gross collections stand at Rs. 38.29 crore.

In contrast, its Independence Day rival, ‘Awarapan 2,’ has had a significantly more successful run, crossing the Rs. 100 crore net mark within its first week and commanding a far larger share of multiplex bookings.

Overseas, ‘Batwara 1947’ has contributed steadily to its overall gross, accumulating Rs. 7.25 crore by the end of Day 6. This includes Rs. 1.50 crore on Day 1, Rs. 2.00 crore each on Day 2 and Day 3, Rs. 0.75 crore on Day 4, and Rs. 0.50 crore each on Day 5 and Day 6. These international earnings have pushed the film’s worldwide gross collection to Rs. 45.42 crore after six days.
