Ranveer Singh’s Father Files Plea with IMPPA Amidst Escalating ‘Don 3’ Financial Dispute
Mumbai, India – The contentious ‘Don 3’ dispute has taken a new turn as Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, father of Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh, has formally submitted a plea to the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA). The submission, made on behalf of his son, directly challenges a substantial Rs 45 crore damage claim lodged by Excel Entertainment, the production house behind the much-anticipated film. This development underscores the persistent and escalating disagreement surrounding Ranveer Singh’s reported withdrawal from the project.
According to reports from India Today, the IMPPA‘s legal team is now tasked with thoroughly examining the documents and evidence presented by Mr. Bhavnani. The association aims to reach an equitable resolution for both parties involved. IMPPA President Abhay Sinha confirmed that a meeting regarding the matter took place on Tuesday, describing it as "smooth." He further stated that the association would determine its subsequent course of action following a comprehensive review of the plea.
The Genesis of the ‘Don 3’ Dispute
The controversy originated with Ranveer Singh’s reported decision to step away from ‘Don 3’, a move that allegedly inflicted significant financial losses on producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment. In response, the production banner initiated a claim for approximately Rs 45 crore in damages from the actor. Despite attempts by various industry bodies to mediate and resolve the issue, the financial disagreement has remained unresolved, creating a rift within the industry.
Tensions surrounding the dispute reached a peak in May when the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh. This significant industry action, which effectively barred the actor from working, was eventually withdrawn in June following extensive discussions involving IMPPA, the Producers Guild of India, and CINTAA (Cine & TV Artistes Association). While the immediate threat of a non-cooperation directive was averted, the underlying financial dispute continued to simmer, leading to Mr. Bhavnani’s latest intervention.
Ranveer Singh Moves On to ‘Pralay’ Amidst Ongoing Controversy
Despite the protracted legal and financial battle, Ranveer Singh has already embarked on his next cinematic venture, ‘Pralay.’ This zombie-based thriller, directed by Jai Mehta, also features Kalyani Priyadarshan in a pivotal role. Production for ‘Pralay’ commenced last week, with filming currently underway in Mumbai.
Earlier reports had suggested a change in the film’s shooting location from Australia to Mumbai. This strategic shift was reportedly made to allow Ranveer Singh to remain in close proximity to his wife, actor Deepika Padukone, as the couple prepares to welcome their second child. While production for ‘Pralay’ is in full swing, the tentative release date for the project has yet to be announced. The ongoing ‘Don 3’ dispute, however, continues to cast a shadow over the actor’s professional landscape, highlighting the complexities and high stakes involved in Bollywood’s production ecosystem.
