Kangana Ranaut Claims ‘Gen Alpha’ Identity Following Backlash Over ‘Gutter Generation’ Remarks
Bollywood actress and politician Kangana Ranaut continues to stir debate online, this time by declaring that she identifies as "Gen Alpha." The statement comes on the heels of a fiery public spat regarding the behavior and conduct of Gen Z protesters during recent demonstrations.
A New Identity
Ranaut took to her Instagram stories on Saturday to share a video featuring a young girl parodying a Gen Z influencer. Praising the content, she wrote, "Gen Alpha roasting Gen Z is pure gold." The actress further clarified her stance, stating, "It is official, I identify as Gen Alpha. Gen Alpha is like ‘come to the point,’ no nonsense detected." She doubled down on her support for the younger cohort by sharing another clip of a child dressed as a soldier, captioning it, "Gen Alpha is bleeding tricolor."
The "Gutter Generation" Controversy
The self-proclaimed shift in identity follows intense public backlash regarding Ranaut’s previous comments. The actress had earlier launched a scathing attack on Gen Z protesters involved in demonstrations surrounding the NEET-UG paper leak controversy.
In a series of viral posts, Ranaut condemned the language used by protesters against political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She famously labeled them the "Gutter Generation," stating, "Never in my life have I seen so much ugliness in one place; these reels from Gen Z protests are puke-inducing… eww, who is birthing and raising them?"
While the remarks sparked widespread outrage, the actress appeared to soften her stance days later, seemingly walking back the insults by referring to Gen Z as the "strength and assets of our country."
Career Moves: From ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhaata’ to Hollywood
Beyond the social media crossfire, Ranaut remains focused on her professional trajectory. Her most recent screen appearance was in Bharat Bhagya Vidhaata, a poignant drama directed by Manoj Tapadia. The film, which recounts the heroic efforts of hospital staff during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, received critical acclaim but struggled to find momentum at the box office.
Looking ahead, the actress is set to expand her reach to the international stage. According to Variety, Ranaut is preparing for her Hollywood debut in the upcoming horror drama Blessed Be the Evil. The Lions Movies production, directed by Anurag Rudra, will see the actress co-starring alongside Tyler Posey and Scarlet Rose Stallone. As she balances her political commentary with her cinematic pursuits, Kangana Ranaut remains a polarizing and prominent figure in the headlines.
