"Everything Went Dark": Mother Recalls Chilling Final Moments of Adobe Techie Killed in Domestic Ambush
NEW DELHI: A peaceful afternoon at a family home in Delhi’s Nihal Vihar turned into an unspeakable tragedy this week when a 31-year-old software engineer, Vinay Gupta, was allegedly beaten to death by six members of his wife’s family.
Mr. Gupta, an employee at Adobe in Noida, was at his residence when his wife, Rekha Gupta, reportedly arrived accompanied by her parents, brothers, and other relatives. What the family initially believed to be a conciliatory visit quickly devolved into a calculated and fatal assault.
"The door was open, they came straight upstairs. His father said that there is no issue, they are relatives, it is fine, seat them. I said, ‘son, turn on the AC, give them water’," the grieving mother recalled, her voice breaking.
The hospitality was met with immediate, brutal violence. According to the victim’s mother, as she turned to serve water, the assailants lunged at her son. "They had pinned down my boy. They threw him on the bed and grabbed him by the neck. They kicked and punched him in the stomach," she recounted, visibly devastated.
When Vinay’s parents—his father is a cancer patient—attempted to intervene, they were shoved aside by the attackers. Despite desperate pleas for help, the assault was swift and lethal. By the time neighbors responded to the mother’s cries, Mr. Gupta had already suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead while being transported to the hospital.
A Pre-Planned Ambush
The family of the deceased maintains that the violence was not a spur-of-the-moment dispute but a cold-blooded execution. Vinay’s sister alleged that earlier that day, the couple had engaged in a minor argument, after which Rekha left the house.
"Within just 10 minutes, she returned with six men from her family," the sister claimed, noting that the commute to their residence usually takes at least 30 minutes. She further alleged that the wife had intentionally disabled the CCTV cameras prior to the attack to obscure the evidence of the crime.
"It was completely pre-planned. Everything was orchestrated in advance. They refused the water, grabbed my brother by his hair, choked his throat, and killed him right before my eyes," the mother told reporters, demanding that the culprits face severe punishment.
Ongoing Investigation
The couple had been married for three-and-a-half years and shared two twin children, both just months old. The sudden loss has left the household in shock, with the mother calling for justice for her only child.
Local authorities have moved quickly to address the incident, which has been widely reported as a murder case. Police have confirmed the detention of four suspects, while a manhunt is currently underway for at least one other individual who remains on the run. Forensic teams have processed the scene, and investigators are continuing to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to the software engineer’s untimely death.
