Injury Scare for India: Rishabh Pant Retires Hurt After Wrist Blow in Second Test

COLOMBO – Team India faced a concerning moment on the opening day of the second Test against Sri Lanka as star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was forced to retire hurt after sustaining a painful blow to his wrist.

The incident occurred during the 58th over of India’s innings. Facing Sri Lankan pacer Lahiru Kumara, Pant attempted an aggressive pull shot against a short-pitched delivery. However, the batter failed to connect cleanly, and the ball struck him directly on the wrist, appearing to glance off his glove.

Visible discomfort was immediate, as Pant dropped his bat and clutched his wrist in evident pain. Medical staff rushed onto the field to attend to the wicketkeeper, applying an ice pack in a bid to mitigate any potential swelling. Despite a lengthy consultation and a brief attempt to tape the wrist, it became clear that Pant was unable to continue his innings.

After discussions with the umpires and the team physio, Pant walked off the field as a retired hurt batter. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja took his place at the crease to continue the innings.

Following his departure, broadcast cameras captured Pant in the Indian dugout, where he remained under the close supervision of the medical team as they continued to assess and treat the injury.

India, currently leading the two-match series 1-0, entered this encounter with momentum after a dominant 165-run victory in the first Test at Galle. The team management will be anxiously awaiting further updates on the severity of the injury, as Pant’s availability remains crucial for the remainder of the Colombo Test and the rest of the series.

Fans and team officials alike are hoping the injury is minor, as the visitors look to maintain their clinical form and secure a series sweep on Sri Lankan soil.
