COLOMBO – Team India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has firmly put to rest mounting speculation regarding the exclusion of wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav from the playing XI for the Colombo Test. Addressing the media, Kotak dismissed claims that the spinner’s absence was a tactical maneuver, emphasizing that the player was genuinely battling a viral fever.

“If the team needs a spinner and he doesn’t play, there is absolutely no need to fake that he wasn’t keeping well,” Kotak stated, addressing the rumors directly. He reiterated that Kuldeep’s omission was purely a matter of fitness, as the spinner was simply not in a condition to take the field.

Positive Outlook on Rishabh Pant

Beyond the confusion regarding the team composition, the spotlight remains on the physical wellbeing of star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. Pant was forced to retire hurt after a sharp delivery from Sri Lankan pacer Lahiru Kumara struck him on the left wrist shortly after the tea break on Day 1.
