“Serena began with a question I have returned to for years: how should the ultimate climbing bicycle feel?” says Santiago Toro, Founder and Lead Product Designer at Scarab. “Not only when attacking a mountain, but also during those rare moments when the bicycle, the body, and the climb stop feeling separate from one another. Serena was created to bring both sensations together.”
Engineering Excellence
The base model for the Serena starts at $4,850, a competitive entry point for a bespoke, handmade steel frameset that includes the frame, fork, seat clamp, axles, a Wolf Tooth headset, and touch-up paint.
To achieve its climbing prowess, Scarab collaborated with Columbus to develop a bespoke family of custom-drawn Spirit tubes, specifically optimized for the platform. The frame is a masterclass in modern fabrication, featuring:
- Custom-machined two-piece head tube: A striking design element that anchors the front end.
- 3D-printed dropouts: Compatible with the UDH standard for future-proof shifting.
- Weight-conscious construction: The frame utilizes a 68mm T47 bottom bracket, stripping away unnecessary weight while maintaining stiffness.
- Tire Clearance: Despite its lightweight, pure-road focus, the design accommodates tires up to 32mm, offering a modern touch of comfort.
A Limited Debut
Exclusivity is woven into the DNA of the release. The first 25 frames will be categorized as the “First Series,” each featuring a permanent identifier etched onto the chainstay, marking them as collector-grade items for early adopters.
