Amitabh Bachchan Reveals the Secret to a Peaceful Home Life: How He Navigates Jaya Bachchan’s Midnight Curfew

Legendary Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, who continues to captivate audiences as the host of Kaun Banega Crorepati 18, recently offered a rare and humorous glimpse into his domestic life. Known for his gravitas on screen, the veteran actor shared the playful “tactics” he employs to maintain harmony at home, particularly when his professional commitments run late into the night.

During a candid interaction on the show, a contestant cheekily inquired whether his wife, veteran actress and politician Jaya Bachchan, ever scolds him for returning home after hours. The question elicited a hearty response from the “Shahenshah” of Bollywood, who revealed that staying in his wife’s good books requires a proactive strategy.

The Art of Proactive Communication

Amitabh explained that he avoids domestic friction by being diligent with his updates. “I know what is going to happen, so what I do is, as soon as I wake up, I ensure I reach out to the family,” he shared. By utilizing a family group chat, he sends a polite “Namaskar” message to keep everyone informed of his schedule.

“I tell them that I have a shoot somewhere and will be late, so they should not wait for me for dinner,” he added. The actor jokingly admitted that if he fails to send this notification, he is inevitably met with questions regarding his whereabouts. He noted that if he is exceptionally late, he typically finds that Jaya has already had her dinner and retired for the night—a routine that keeps the peace.

Behind the Scenes: The Star at Home

Beyond his professional life, the actor shared that he is far from a stranger to household responsibilities. When his staff is off-duty, Big B takes matters into his own hands. “Whether there are four, eight, or 10 staff members, when there is no one at home, I do all the work myself. I take care of the cleaning and everything,” he revealed.

However, he confessed that his domestic talents have a limit: cooking. When he finds himself hungry at home with no help, he either turns to food delivery services or relies on Jaya’s culinary skills. “I don’t know how to cook… sometimes I ask Jaya, ‘Deviji, please make something.’ That makes her very excited, and she makes different dishes for me every day,” he said, highlighting the enduring, affectionate banter that defines their long-standing marriage.

A Legacy of Love

The couple’s journey remains one of Bollywood’s most cherished narratives. After meeting professionally in 1971, their relationship blossomed during the filming of Ek Nazar. Following the massive success of the 1973 hit Zanjeer, the duo planned a celebratory trip to London. It was Amitabh’s father, the esteemed poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, who insisted that the pair marry before traveling together. They wed in a quiet, private ceremony on June 3, 1973, shortly before jetting off to the UK.

More than five decades later, the Bachchans remain an anchor of the film industry, raising two children, Shweta and Abhishek, and doting on their grandchildren. For fans, these Amitabh Bachchan anecdotes serve as a delightful reminder that even the biggest stars in the country share the same everyday relatable struggles and joys that define any ordinary household.
