Indian Dressage Star Shruti Vora Calls for IOA Intervention Over Alleged Administrative Lapses
NEW DELHI: Professional dressage rider Shruti Vora has officially escalated a grievance to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), accusing the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) of significant administrative negligence. The dispute centers on the federation’s alleged failure to process critical horse owner accreditations for the upcoming Asian Games, a lapse that Vora claims occurred despite her timely submission of all required documentation.
A Timeline of Negligence
In a formal letter to the IOA, Vora—a key member of India’s dressage squad—detailed that she and other athletes provided notarized horse owner documentation to the EFI as early as June 3. Despite the urgency of the situation, the riders received no acknowledgement or meaningful response, even after issuing follow-up queries on July 13, 17, 19, and 30.
According to Vora, the EFI did not contact the Asian Games Organising Committee in Japan regarding the accreditations until July 29—nearly two months after the initial submission. Further reminders sent by athletes on August 2 and 3 reportedly went unheeded.
Critical Consequences
The situation reached a breaking point on August 14, when the Organising Committee informed the EFI that while International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) regulations allow for two horse owner passes per animal, these names were strictly required to be submitted alongside the “Definite Entries.”
Vora asserts that the EFI’s failure to act promptly has jeopardized the accreditation of essential horse owners. She characterized the situation as a “serious failure” rather than a mere administrative hurdle, questioning whether the national sports federation is prioritizing the needs of its athletes as they prepare to represent India on the continental stage.
Seeking Urgent Redress
“Athletes should not be made to bear the consequences of an administrative delay when they had completed the required formalities within the stipulated time,” Vora stated in her communication.
In light of the impending competition, Vora has requested that the IOA intervene immediately with both the EFI and the Asian Games Organising Committee to rectify the oversight. She is seeking written confirmation that the accreditations will be processed as originally requested, emphasizing that the matter is highly time-sensitive.
While these allegations paint a picture of systemic inefficiency within the EFI, the federation has yet to provide a public response or counter-narrative regarding the handling of these documents. As the Indian equestrian contingent gears up for the Asian Games, the focus remains on whether the IOA will step in to ensure that administrative bottlenecks do not derail the athletes’ performance and support structure.
