Manoj Bajpayee and Boman Irani Clash in Gripping Teaser for ‘Last Man in Tower’

The anticipation for one of the most awaited cinematic collaborations of the year has reached a fever pitch. On Thursday, the makers of the upcoming drama Last Man in Tower unveiled its official teaser, offering audiences a haunting glimpse into a high-stakes battle of morality and community loyalty. The film is scheduled to hit theaters nationwide on September 11.

A Stellar Collaboration

Directed by the acclaimed Los Angeles-based filmmaker Ben Rekhi, the film marks the first-ever on-screen pairing of acting powerhouses Manoj Bajpayee and Boman Irani. The ensemble cast is further bolstered by the presence of Divya Dutta and Sukant Goel, both of whom promise to bring profound emotional weight to the narrative.

Adapted from the celebrated novel by Aravind Adiga, the film’s screenplay was crafted by the esteemed Sooni Taraporevala, with soul-stirring Hindi dialogues penned by Juhi Chaturvedi.

A Story of Quiet Resistance

Set against the backdrop of a changing urban landscape, the film follows “Masterji,” a retired schoolteacher portrayed by Bajpayee. His life is thrown into chaos when a life-changing offer forces the residents of his residential tower to make a difficult choice. Masterji’s refusal to conform to the community’s collective greed sparks a tense, quiet resistance that pits him against his own neighbors, including the character played by Boman Irani.

According to director Ben Rekhi, the project is “an urgent story about holding onto community and family through turbulent times.” Reflecting on the filming process, Rekhi expressed his admiration for his lead actors, stating, “The most rewarding part has been witnessing the power of Manoj and Boman—two giants of cinema, working together for the first time.”

A Milestone for Spirit Media

Last Man in Tower serves as a significant milestone for Rana Daggubati’s production house, Spirit Media, marking the company’s first venture into Hindi feature film production.

“What drew us to it was how naturally it finds something universal in the lives of a very specific group of people,” Daggubati remarked. “There is something very compelling about the way it explores the choices we make and the things we hold on to.”

Behind the Lens

The production team behind the film is as impressive as its cast. With cinematography by Rangarajan Ramabadran and a score composed by Govind Vasantha, the film aims for a visceral, immersive experience. The project is further supported by producers Guneet Dogra and Pratiksha Rao.

As Ben Rekhi’s sixth feature film, Last Man in Tower continues his trend of crafting thought-provoking narratives, building on his previous successes like the SXSW Audience Award-winning Waterborne. With its stellar pedigree and a gripping premise, the film is poised to be one of the most significant releases of the year.
