‘Jailer’ Actor Vinayakan Opens Up About Divorce and the Challenges of Public Life

Known for his intense performances and enigmatic screen presence, actor Vinayakan has long maintained a strict boundary between his professional career and his private life. However, the acclaimed performer recently offered a rare and candid glimpse into his personal world, addressing his divorce and the complexities of navigating life under the public gaze.

In a sincere interview with Manorama News, the actor—who gained massive pan-Indian popularity for his role as the menacing antagonist in the Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer—explained that his separation was not born out of conflict or hostility. Instead, he described the decision as a mutual realization that their paths were no longer aligned.

A Mature Separation

Refuting rumors of dramatic disputes, Vinayakan clarified that the split was amicable. “There was no fight between us. We couldn’t live together. So, we separated,” he stated.

The actor, who does not have children with his former wife, shared that their relationship remains marked by a level of mutual care even after their separation. In a moment of deep reflection, he expressed a desire for his ex-wife to find personal peace, acknowledging that his own nature made a shared life difficult.

“When we understood each other well, we felt that separating was better. Otherwise, it would have become a big problem for her. I don’t give her peace. Let her live in her own way. That is better for both of us,” he shared, candidly adding, “It was my problem, not hers.”

The Burden of Stardom

Beyond the specifics of his marriage, Vinayakan spoke about the psychological toll of being a public figure. He noted that the label of “actor” often follows him home, creating a barrier between him and those closest to him.

“Everyone sees me as an actor now. Even at home, they see me only as an actor. How can I live only as an actor? We should be able to show our own personality outside too. I can’t do that. That is painful,” he admitted. He identified his former wife as one of the few people with whom he could shed his cinematic persona, acknowledging that losing that specific connection was a profound and difficult phase in his life.

On the Professional Front

Despite the challenges in his personal life, Vinayakan remains a powerhouse in the South Indian film industry. His chilling portrayal of Varman in the blockbuster film Jailer earned him widespread critical acclaim and solidified his status as one of the most versatile character actors working today.

Fans of his work can look forward to seeing him reprise his iconic role in the highly anticipated Jailer 2, as he continues to balance his demanding career with the ongoing process of finding personal peace.
