Spider-Man: Brand New Day Makes History, Overtaking Titanic to Become Fourth Highest-Grossing Film Ever

Tom Holland’s latest outing as the wall-crawling hero, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, has achieved a monumental milestone in cinematic history. The film has officially surpassed James Cameron’s 1997 juggernaut Titanic to become the fourth highest-grossing film of all time at the worldwide box office.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and co-starring Zendaya, the superhero blockbuster reached this historic threshold on August 28. Fueled by a powerful fourth weekend, the film raked in an additional $39 million domestically and $109 million in international markets. These figures pushed its total worldwide gross beyond the $2.3 billion mark, effectively ending the long-standing reign of Titanic among the top tier of highest-earning movies.

A New Era for Superhero Cinema

As Titanic—a cultural phenomenon that has seen numerous theatrical re-releases over the past three decades—slips to the fifth spot, the leaderboard for global earnings now features a new contender. Currently, only Avatar: The Way of Water ($2.33 billion), Avengers: Endgame ($2.79 billion), and the original Avatar ($2.92 billion) remain ahead of the Spidey sensation.

Domestically, the success story is equally impressive. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has climbed to the No. 2 spot on the all-time North American list, trailing only Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Industry analysts are now closely watching the gap between Holland’s latest hit and the 2025 Chinese animated sensation Ne Zha 2. With only a $50 million difference between the two, it is widely expected that Brand New Day will soon ascend to the third position on the global charts.

Setting Sights on the $3 Billion Milestone

The industry is abuzz with speculation regarding the film’s ultimate ceiling. Given its sustained momentum and global popularity, experts suggest that Spider-Man: Brand New Day could potentially become the first-ever superhero film to breach the elusive box office collection of $3 billion.

While James Cameron’s Titanic remains a cornerstone of film history, this shift in the rankings signals a massive resurgence in audience appetite for high-stakes, big-screen spectacles. As the film continues its theatrical run, all eyes will be on whether the web-slinger can continue his climb toward the top of the all-time list.
