Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition Brings New Gear and Cosmetic Customization to the Lands Between
FromSoftware’s Elden Ring continues to cement its legacy as a modern masterpiece, and now, it is expanding its reach and depth with the release of the Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. This new release brings the epic open-world title to new platforms while introducing a wealth of fresh content—including unique weapons, detailed armor sets, challenging NPC encounters, and the long-awaited ability to customize your spectral steed, Torrent.
For players already navigating the Lands Between on PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox, this content is available as the “Tarnished Pack” DLC. To ensure compatibility, players should verify their game is updated to version 1.17 or higher.
New Armaments and Armor Sets
The Tarnished Edition introduces two distinct character archetypes—the Idus Knight and the Heavy Knight—each accompanied by signature gear that can also be discovered throughout the world.
- Idus Knight (Silver Grooved Set): Players can acquire this sleek, reflective armor set from the Nomadic Merchant located just north of Bellum Church in Liurnia of the Lakes. The corresponding Idus Sword can be found by exploring the ruins northwest of the Liurnia Lake Shore Site of Grace.
- Heavy Knight (Steel Set): For those favoring a more fortified look, the Steel set is sold at the Isolated Merchant’s Shack in the Weeping Peninsula. The matching Hefty Scimitar can be picked up from a merchant located north of Fort Haight West in Limgrave.
Beyond these sets, adventurers can hunt for three unique new weapons: the powerful Reed Great Katana (hidden in the mounds near Fort Faroth, Caelid), the Reverse-Bladed Sword (available via the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold), and the Ritual Thrusting Sword (tucked away within the Caelid Colosseum).
Challenging New NPC Invasions
Combat enthusiasts have new foes to test their mettle against. Two formidable NPC invaders have been added to the game, both dropping exclusive rewards:
- Knight Leontiel: Players will be intercepted by this warrior upon visiting the Wailing Dunes in Caelid. Defeating her yields both the Leontiel armor set and the devastating Leontiel’s Greatsword.
- Broken Gold Mask: Tied to the iconic Brother Corhyn/Goldmask questline, this invasion occurs at the Radagon statue in Leyndell, Royal Capital, after casting the Law of Regression. Victors will claim the Golden Order Flail and the unique Gold Tattoo armor set.
Customizing Your Spectral Steed
Perhaps the most requested feature added in this edition is the ability to equip armor to Torrent. Once a player collects their first piece of “Spectral Steed Attire,” they can toggle the appearance of their horse at any Site of Grace.
The collection includes:
- Regalia: Tree Sentinel: Found in a chest within Stormveil Castle, near the throne room.
- Regalia: Carian Silver: Located in a chest behind the desk at Ranni’s Rise.
- Regalia: Funereal Night: Discovered along the clifftops of the Altus Plateau, marked by a series of swords embedded in the ground.
With these additions, the world of Elden Ring feels more expansive and customizable than ever. Whether you are a newcomer to the series or a veteran tarnished looking for a reason to return, there is plenty of new ground to cover and gear to master.
