Record-Breaking Charity Event Honours Legacy of George Michael
A heartfelt tribute to the late pop icon George Michael has reached a new milestone, with a recent charity event raising a staggering £28,000 for local and national causes. The impressive total marks an increase of £8,000 over the previous year’s fundraising efforts, demonstrating the enduring love and generosity surrounding the star’s memory.
The event, dubbed “Outside25,” was hosted in the picturesque gardens of Mill Cottage in Goring-on-Thames. Fittingly, the gathering took place over the weekend that would have marked the singer’s birthday, serving as a poignant celebration of his life and his well-documented spirit of philanthropy.
The funds raised have been distributed to a variety of charities and community organisations, many of which were deeply meaningful to the star. Among the primary beneficiaries is Childline, a service that held a special place in George Michael’s heart throughout his career.
Support for the event reached the highest levels, with a significant contribution from Andrew Ridgeley, Michael’s lifelong friend and co-founder of the legendary pop duo Wham!. Ridgeley donated a rare, limited-edition George Michael 2024 5oz Fine Silver Proof Coin for the charity auction. Additionally, the musician recorded a special video message that was played for the attendees, further cementing the emotional connection of the evening.
Beyond Childline, the proceeds will support a diverse range of local pillars, including:
- Reading Samaritans
- Electric Umbrella
- My Cancer My Choices
- Friends of Streatley School
- Friends of Goring Library
- St Thomas of Canterbury Church
Organisers of the event expressed their profound gratitude to the local community, crediting the record-breaking success to the “incredible support” provided by volunteers, sponsors, performers, donors, and the fans who travelled to Goring-on-Thames to keep the George Michael legacy alive. As the Outside25 event continues to grow, it serves as a powerful reminder of how the singer’s influence continues to inspire positive change long after his passing.
