BJP Ramps Up Digital Offensive with Satirical Social Media Overhaul
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a high-octane shift in its digital communications strategy. Following a major organisational shakeup, the ruling party is pivoting toward an aggressive, satire-driven campaign on social media, aiming to dominate the online narrative and blunt the opposition’s messaging.
The tactical shift, which gained momentum shortly after Deepak Mhaskey took charge as the party’s new social media convener, marks a departure from traditional messaging. The party’s online presence is now saturated with memes, humorous content, and clips from popular films, all meticulously curated to target the Congress party and its leader, Rahul Gandhi.
A Coordinated Regional Network
This revamped strategy relies heavily on the synergy of the party’s regional state units. On platforms like X (formerly Twitter), BJP state handles are acting in lockstep—quoting, tagging, and resharing one another’s posts to create an “echo chamber” effect that amplifies their messaging.
This renewed vigour follows the appointment of a new core team, including co-conveners Preeti Gandhi, Shivanand Dwivedi, Alok Bhatt, and Arun Yadav, who replaced long-time social media head Amit Malviya. Under this new leadership, the party has leaned into the “Dimagi Naxal” narrative—a term coined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi—to frame its ideological opposition. Simultaneously, the digital team is working to counteract Rahul Gandhi’s recent “Smash The Patriarchy” campaign by highlighting perceived double standards within the Congress.
Strategic Continuity
Despite the palpable surge in online aggression, BJP insiders maintain that the party’s core DNA remains unchanged. According to internal sources, while the methods have evolved to include more modern, meme-based outreach, the institutionalized system behind the curtain remains constant.
“The social media cell is not a shadow of any individual; it reflects the party’s thinking,” a source noted, downplaying the leadership transition. “We are simply tailoring our strategy to suit the current political environment.”
The party acknowledges that it is prioritizing X to ensure that the primary arena of political discourse does not go undefended. However, party leaders remain quick to clarify that they have set strict guidelines for this new wave of content. They claim that while the party will utilize sharp satire and wit to challenge its opponents, it is committed to avoiding the “below-the-belt” rhetoric and indecent discourse often associated with its rivals.
As the social media battle continues to intensify, the BJP’s move to integrate Gen-Z-friendly formats like meme culture and pop-culture references suggests that the party is aiming to stay ahead of the curve in the digital arena, ensuring its ideological messaging reaches younger audiences with greater impact.
