Murder Investigation Launched Following Tragic Discovery in Dungannon

DUNGANNON, Northern Ireland – A community is reeling in shock after police launched a major murder investigation following the discovery of a man’s body and a seriously injured child at a residential property on Lisnahull Road.

The discovery, made on the morning of Saturday, August 29, prompted a massive emergency response. Paramedics, including an advanced care paramedic, two ambulance officers, and a specialist Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), were dispatched to the terraced home alongside a helicopter crew. Despite the rapid arrival of emergency services, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The child, whose age and relationship to the deceased have not yet been released, was found with serious injuries. They were treated at the scene before being transported for urgent medical care.

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s (PSNI) Major Investigation Team have since taken charge of the case. Authorities confirmed that a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder; he currently remains in police custody as inquiries continue.

“There is a strong police presence in the area today, trying to carry out investigations and find out and establish what happened,” Councillor Varsani stated. “The individuals involved were long-standing members of the local community who have been here for a good number of years. There appears to be a strong sense of shock and trauma, and we ask people to be respectful of the news that might be coming out.”

She further appealed to the public for cooperation: “If you have any information, even the smallest piece of information, please pass that on to the police.”
