AAP Leader Shot Dead in Targeted Attack in Punjab’s Ferozepur; Election Dispute Suspected

MAMDOT, PUNJAB – A brutal targeted killing has sent shockwaves through the Mamdot region of Ferozepur, as an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Gurpreet Singh Gopi, was gunned down on Saturday following a high-speed chase by armed assailants.

According to local law enforcement, the incident occurred while Gopi and an associate identified as Harpreet were traveling on a motorcycle. A group of attackers, trailing them in a car, reportedly pursued the pair before opening fire. The assault proved fatal for Gopi, who succumbed to his injuries.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh Sidhu confirmed the tragic incident and provided details into the ongoing investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the violence was fueled by a long-standing personal dispute, with authorities actively exploring an election-related dispute as a primary motive behind the attack.

A Brazen Daylight Assault

The attack appeared to be coordinated and aggressive. Reports indicate that Gopi’s friends were traveling in a separate vehicle behind the motorcycle at the time of the shooting. The assailants reportedly opened fire on the second vehicle as well, raising concerns about the level of aggression displayed by the perpetrators.

Investigators are currently analyzing the sequence of events and the circumstances surrounding the attack on the accompanying vehicle. “The two parties had an old dispute. The attackers have been identified and our teams have been formed. We will arrest them as soon as possible,” SSP Sidhu stated.

Hunt for Suspects Underway

Police officials have indicated that the primary suspect has a known criminal history and a history of involvement in unlawful activities. Multiple specialized police teams have been mobilized to track down the assailants, with raids currently being conducted across various locations to ensure a swift apprehension.
