Sisters Hospitalized After Being Attacked with Acid by Former Fiance in Hapur

HAPUR, UTTAR PRADESH: A gruesome act of violence has left two sisters seriously injured after a man targeted them with acid in a fit of rage over a cancelled wedding. The incident, which occurred late Saturday night in Hapur, has sent shockwaves through the local community.

The accused, identified as Harsh Bhati—a resident of the Awas Vikas Colony—allegedly arrived at his former fiancee’s residence armed with acid. According to the victims’ family, the marriage between Bhati and the young woman had been formally arranged. However, the alliance was recently called off by the bride’s family after they discovered that the man was reportedly addicted to drugs.

The vengeful confrontation escalated quickly when the family opened the door. Witnesses claim that Bhati immediately threw the corrosive substance at his former fiancee. When her sister bravely intervened to protect her sibling, she too was doused with the acid.

The victims’ screams alerted other family members, who managed to overpower Bhati as he attempted to flee the scene. The family held the suspect until police arrived.

Personnel from the Simbhawali police station reached the location shortly after being notified and took the accused into custody. The two sisters were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment for their severe injuries.

Rahul Yadav, the Circle Officer overseeing the case, confirmed that a formal complaint has been filed by the victims’ family. “A case has been registered based on the complaint, and we have taken the accused into custody. He is currently being questioned to ascertain the full details of the incident,” Yadav stated.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the motive and the events leading up to the assault as the victims remain under medical care.
