Kichcha Sudeep Defends Support for Yash’s ‘Toxic,’ Emphasizes Solidarity Within Kannada Cinema
Kannada superstar Kichcha Sudeep has opened up about his public backing of Yash’s ambitious project, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. Despite the film facing a polarized reception from critics and audiences, Sudeep maintained that his endorsement was rooted in professional camaraderie and a commitment to fostering innovation within the industry.
Standing by a Colleague
During the press conference for the upcoming season of Bigg Boss Kannada, Sudeep addressed questions regarding his earlier social media support for the Geetu Mohandas-directed film. When asked why he stood by the project despite widespread criticism regarding its narrative, Sudeep was clear: his support was a gesture of solidarity.
“That was my stand to my colleague, a fellow Kannadiga, Kannada cinema, and the Kannada effort behind the film,” Sudeep explained. He emphasized that as a veteran in the industry, he values the initiative required to step outside of established comfort zones.

Following the release of Toxic, Sudeep had previously taken to X (formerly Twitter) to applaud Yash for choosing a challenging, experimental project over a safe, formulaic follow-up to his massive KGF success.
“It takes a different mindset, conviction, and most importantly, the guts to attempt something like this,” Sudeep wrote at the time. He praised the film as an “unusual and commendable attempt,” arguing that even the debated portions of the movie served as proof of an artist striving to push the boundaries of regional cinema.

Beyond the discussion of his peer’s work, Sudeep reflected on his own career trajectory and the toll that a lack of releases takes on him personally. Addressing rumors or concerns about his absence from the screen, the actor was candid about his passion for his craft.
“Nobody bleeds more than me when I don’t have a film release,” Sudeep stated, highlighting that he considers cinema his life’s work. He clarified that his time away from the screen is not spent in leisure, but is often consumed by the intense, demanding process of filmmaking, recalling his grueling schedule during the filming of previous projects where he worked across 22 sets over several months.
Future Projects: A Return to Dystopia
Sudeep’s professional horizon looks promising as he reunites with acclaimed filmmaker Anup Bhandari for Billa Ranga Baashaa. Following their successful collaboration on Vikrant Rona, the duo is set to tackle a large-scale futuristic action drama. The film, which is currently in production, is set in a dystopian 2209 AD and is slated for a 2027 release.
