“Honestly, and after confirming it with other teammates we’ve had in common, he’s a true phenomenon in the dressing room,” González stated. He described Ronaldo not as an untouchable superstar, but as a “super normal” and approachable individual who proactively assisted his teammates during a challenging year for the club. “He helped us enormously when he arrived… he helped us with everything,” he added.

The “Competitive Beast” Transformation

While the off-pitch Ronaldo is characterized by his support and accessibility, González noted a stark shift the moment training begins. According to the former centre-back, there is a clear boundary between Ronaldo the person and Ronaldo the athlete.

“As soon as he goes from the dressing room to the field, he completely changes,” González explained. On the pitch, that warmth gives way to a “competitive beast.”

Even in training ground sessions, where the intensity often leads to heated moments, Ronaldo’s drive was infectious. González admitted to trying to “get under his skin” during drills, but any friction was fleeting. “The dirty looks… afterwards we would go to the jacuzzi, have a few laughs and some humor, and everything would pass,” he recounted.
