1. A New S-Class Chip for the AI Era
Apple’s S-series processors have seen incremental updates in recent years, with the company opting to skip a major chip revision for the Series 11. That looks set to change with the Series 12.
Reports indicate that the upcoming model will feature a substantially more powerful, efficient chip—likely branded as the S12. This upgrade is being positioned as a foundational element for the “AI era” of wearables. Health remains the cornerstone of the Apple Watch value proposition, and the Series 12 aims to deepen those insights. Beyond the rumored inclusion of hypertension detection features that have recently been under regulatory review, the hardware is getting a major boost.
The new sensor array is expected to enable “always-on” heart rate tracking. According to Bloomberg, Apple has been testing two distinct finishes for the high-end material: white and dark gray. Ceramic has historically served as a luxury tier for the device, and while official pricing remains unknown, it is expected to command a significant premium. Given that the last ceramic model debuted at $1,299, the Series 12 ceramic edition will likely be positioned as the ultimate status symbol for watch enthusiasts, potentially exceeding the cost of the ruggedized Ultra model.
