IIM Nagpur Inaugurates ‘Hindi Month 2026’ with Focus on Cultural Integration and Linguistic Heritage

Nagpur, September 1, 2026: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur officially commenced its month-long celebration of ‘Hindi Month 2026’ today. The inaugural ceremony, held at the institute’s campus, featured a series of literary and academic discussions aimed at honoring the cultural and linguistic significance of the Hindi language in the modern Indian context.

The event was graced by eminent educationist and orator Dr. Vedprakash Mishra, who served as the chief guest. During his address, Dr. Mishra underscored the historical weight of Hindi, noting that it served as a vital instrument of unity during India’s struggle for independence.

“Hindi was not merely a medium of communication during the freedom struggle; it acted as a powerful bridge that transcended geographical and linguistic boundaries,” Dr. Mishra remarked. He emphasized that the language played a pivotal role in creating a linguistic connection across the nation, effectively linking regions from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Attock to Cuttack.

A Language of Inclusivity

Dr. Mishra characterized Hindi as a flexible, simple, and inherently poetic language. He noted that throughout its evolution, Hindi has remained remarkably open, readily assimilating vocabulary from various Indian and foreign languages. Highlighting its global stature, he referenced 2023 data from the Anthropological Survey of India, which ranks Hindi among the most widely spoken languages in the world.

He further clarified that the promotion of Hindi is not intended to overshadow other Indian languages. “Hindi belongs naturally to all Indians,” he stated, emphasizing that its primary role is to strengthen the thread of national unity and streamline communication across the country’s diverse landscape.

Institutional Commitment

The inauguration saw active participation from the institute’s leadership, including IIM Nagpur Director Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, CAO Prof. Devashis Rath, and Chairperson of Brand and Media, Prof. Yatish Joshi.

Dr. Metri praised the accessibility of Hindi, noting that its simplicity makes it an ideal language for community engagement. Prof. Devashis Rath shared insights into the increasing integration of Hindi within the institute’s administrative and academic workflows, noting the progress made in encouraging its use among faculty and students. Prof. Yatish Joshi provided an overview of the upcoming events, which aim to foster a creative environment for Hindi literature and dialogue.

Unveiling ‘Meghdoot’

A highlight of the inaugural ceremony was the announcement of Meghdoot, IIM Nagpur’s new annual theme-based Hindi publication. The cover and conceptual framework of the magazine were unveiled during the event.

According to Chaitanya Deshpande, Officer for Communication & Media and Official Language, Meghdoot is designed to serve as a platform for the creative and literary expressions of the IIM Nagpur community. The inaugural edition of the magazine is scheduled for release on January 10, 2027, coinciding with World Hindi Day.

The inaugural function concluded with a strong sense of enthusiasm, setting the stage for a month of cultural enrichment and intellectual exchange dedicated to the spirit of the Hindi language.
