Vijay Deverakonda to Star in Telugu Remake of Gujarati Blockbuster ‘Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate’
Following the phenomenal success of recent devotional cinema, the spotlight has shifted to a major upcoming project that has been making waves in the industry. The hit Gujarati film Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate, which defied all odds to become the highest-grossing film in the history of Gujarati cinema, is officially heading to the Telugu screen.
Putting Speculation to Rest
For months, industry insiders were abuzz with rumors that superstar Ram Charan would be headlining the Telugu adaptation. However, reports have now confirmed that the coveted role of Lord Krishna will instead be portrayed by Vijay Deverakonda.
The project is being spearheaded by renowned filmmaker Dil Raju, who recently secured the Telugu remake rights. The deal, which has generated significant excitement among fans, was facilitated by Vipul D. Shah of Optimystix.
A Tale of Divine Intervention
The original film, directed by Ankit Sakhiya, tells the heartwarming and spiritual story of an auto-rickshaw driver who breaks into a remote mansion with the intent of committing theft. His plans take an unexpected turn when he finds himself trapped inside, only to be rescued by a mysterious man who is eventually revealed to be Lord Krishna. The original cast featured Karan Joshi as the auto-driver and Shruhad Goswami as the divine figure.
The ‘Laalo’ Box Office Phenomenon
The journey of Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate serves as a textbook example of a “slow-burn” success. Released on October 10, 2025, during the typically quiet pre-Diwali period, the film opened to minimal fanfare. It managed only modest collections of Rs. 36 lakhs in its first week and Rs. 28 lakhs in the second.
However, the film’s fortunes changed dramatically in the third week as word-of-mouth spread. Collections rose to Rs. 70 lakhs, setting the stage for a staggering fourth-week surge to Rs. 14 crores. The movie eventually broke all regional box office records, crossing the Rs. 100-crore mark despite its humble beginnings and lack of traditional star power.
With Vijay Deverakonda now attached to the lead role and the seasoned production backing of Dil Raju, industry analysts expect the Telugu version to be one of the most anticipated releases in the coming calendar year, hoping to replicate the magical box-office run of its predecessor.
