Rashmika Mandanna Opens Up About Career-Pausing Hip Injury and Life Post-Wedding
Popular actor Rashmika Mandanna is officially preparing to return to the film set after a six-week hiatus. The actor, who recently stepped away from the spotlight to recover from a serious hip injury sustained during the filming of her upcoming action thriller Mysaa, says she is now ready to tackle her packed professional commitments.
A Painful Lesson on Set
In a candid conversation with the Hindustan Times, the actor detailed the moments leading up to the injury. While filming a high-energy dance sequence, Rashmika experienced a sharp, sudden snap in her hip. Despite the immediate pain, she powered through the scene, only stopping once she found it physically impossible to lift her leg.
“The tendon in my hip bone snapped while shooting a song,” she explained. “I felt the snap but continued shooting… The next day, I visited the hospital and got an MRI. The doctors were surprised that I managed to walk up to the hospital all by myself. They told me my pain receptors are messed up!”
Although medical professionals cleared her to return to work within a week, the actor opted for an extended recovery period to ensure her long-term health. During these six weeks, she traded her high-intensity shooting schedule for a quieter pace involving reading, puzzles, and much-needed rest.
Returning to a Packed Calendar
Rashmika’s focus is now firmly on finishing her pending projects. Her immediate priority is the film Ranabaali, which is currently in its final stages. “I’m resuming the shoot for Ranabaali in Hyderabad because it’s up for release soon, and I have 10 days of shooting left,” she shared. The actor admits to feeling a sense of professional anxiety as she looks at her calendar, which is already booked with two additional back-to-back film projects.
Finding Balance with Vijay Deverakonda
The forced break provided an unexpected silver lining for the actor’s personal life. Following her wedding to actor-producer Vijay Deverakonda in February, the couple had spent almost three months apart due to conflicting, demanding work schedules.
“We didn’t get to see each other for three months after the wedding; we would just speak on the phone,” she noted. “This was the universe’s way of saying, ‘Calm down, I will keep you at home now.’ This is the most time we have spent together, and it was strange but nice.”
Despite their different tastes in entertainment—with Vijay favoring gritty, serious dramas and Rashmika indulging in K-dramas—the couple made the most of their domestic time. According to the actor, Vijay has been supportive of her return to work, albeit with a humorous warning: “Vijay says, ‘Let’s have more of this, but next time without an injury!’”
As she steps back onto the set, Rashmika is carrying the lessons of her recovery with her, promising to be more cautious as she navigates the rigorous demands of her career.
