Dragon's Dogma 2 Frame Rates Massively Improved with Patch 3.2 on PS5, PS5 Pro

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sees Massive Performance Overhaul on PS5 and PS5 Pro

For many players, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has long been a game defined by two sides: its deep, captivating open-world mechanics and its deeply frustrating technical shortcomings. Upon its initial launch, the title was plagued by frequent frame rate dips, particularly in densely populated areas like Vernworth, where the game often descended into a jittery, stutter-filled experience. While Capcom released a series of incremental updates that offered minor stability improvements, the core limitations of the RE Engine seemed to act as a persistent bottleneck, leaving fans wondering if the game would ever truly reach its potential.

Following the recent success Capcom found in optimizing the technical performance of Monster Hunter Wilds, many speculated that the developers would eventually apply those same optimization techniques to their high-fantasy RPG. That speculation has now proven true, as the latest update has delivered what can only be described as a minor miracle for the game’s stability.

A New Standard on PS5 Pro

The most dramatic transformation is visible on the PlayStation 5 Pro. By leveraging Sony’s proprietary PSSR upscaler, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is finally able to maintain remarkable visual clarity while achieving a locked, buttery-smooth 60fps experience—even with ray tracing enabled.

For owners of the Pro console, this removes the “performance versus fidelity” dilemma entirely. Even for those without displays capable of Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) or high-frequency output, the Pro hardware now ensures that the chaotic, action-heavy encounters typical of the game remain fluid and responsive.

Better Late Than Never

While it has taken roughly two and a half years to reach this level of optimization, the result is a significantly more immersive experience. The “choppiness” that once made combat in busy city centers feel like a chore has been effectively smoothed out, allowing the brilliance of Capcom’s design to shine through without the persistent reminder of the engine’s previous struggles.

This overhaul arrives at a pivotal time for the community. With the highly anticipated Dark Arisen expansion set to launch this October, Capcom has successfully prepped the base game to handle the extra strain of new content. For those who stepped away due to performance woes, now is the perfect time to recruit a new party of Pawns and return to the fray.
