Apsley Farms in Picket Piece has delivered its 100,000th bag of peat-free mulch to gardeners across the country.
The product is a by-product of the farm’s biogas operations, which convert locally grown crops into renewable energy.

Henry du Val de Beaulieu, chairman of Apsley Farms, said: “What started as a by-product has grown into something thousands of UK gardeners rely on every year.
“We’re proud to be demonstrating how sustainable crop production and clean energy can work hand in hand – and, at the same time, play a small part in helping the UK move away from peat.”
Apsley Farms pumps enough green gas into the national grid to heat 10,000 homes each year.
Its Soil Association-certified mulch is rich in nutrients and free from peat, waste and plastic, and has been used by a number of teams at RHS Garden Wisley.
Since launching the mulch in 2019, the farm has established a loyal customer base across Hampshire and beyond, distributing the product using its own drivers.
The biogas process also generates food-grade liquid CO2, which is supplied to drinks manufacturers and used to make dry ice for the pharmaceutical and food sectors.
Apsley Farms is the only operation in the UK producing BRCGS-accredited liquid CO2 from a renewable biogas source.
